Main website: http://www.wvdep.org/ The WV Save Our Streams Program’s webpage is http://www.wvdep.org/dwwm/wvsos. WV Save Our Streams is a WVDEP sponsored volunteer monitoring program that trains citizen scientist how to monitor and become watchdogs of their local wadeable rivers and streams. The program focuses on a bioassessment approach to monitoring, which includes the collection of biological, chemical and physical conditions. Benthic macroinvertebrates are the primary biological indicators and volunteers are required to assess their diversity and abundance. The physical and chemical conditions monitored depends upon the types of procedures and the survey level (one, two or three) chosen. After the data is reviewed by the program coordinator, it becomes part of a volunteer assessment database. |
